    A A general term for ceramics produced in the eastern part of Mino Province (currently Gifu Prefecture). It is not a name that refers to a unique technique. The origin is generally said to be the Sue pottery of the Nara period, but there is also a theory that production began when the Seto potters moved to Mino at the end of the Muromachi period. It is characterized by the fact that we have built new glazes and techniques according to the tastes of the times, and have created pottery of various shapes and colors. Mino ware does not show one, and is characterized by having various techniques. The four styles of Kiseto, Setokuro, Shino, and Oribe were born in the golden age, the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1603) due to the fashion of the tea ceremony. Today, it boasts about half the share of nationwide ceramic production such as tableware for everyday use.

  • Q How do you attach the pattern of the container?

    A I am painting by transfer printing. Transfer is a technology that prints ink by screen printing on special water-absorbent paper, transfers only the design to a container, and fires it. Unlike seals, the surface is coated with a flexible resin and can be attached to a cubic curved surface. However, the technique requires the competence of skilled craftsmen. In the vicinity of Tajimi, there has been a factory for pasting and firing transfer paper together with the transfer paper manufacturing industry for a long time, supporting the beautiful container of ceramic indigo.

  • Q Where are the ceramic indigo products made?

    A Ceramic indigo lacquer ware, glass and iron products are made in China or Thailand (glass). Most of the pottery is Mino ware, and some are made in China. Most of the original products were planned and developed in-house.

  • Q What is Negoro and what is Akebono?

    A There are two types of ceramic indigo lacquer ware, "Negoro" and "Akebono". Negoro is a method of applying lacquer, which is painted black first and then vermilion. On the contrary, Akebono is painted red first and then black from above. By this method of painting, the color underneath is sharpened or sharpened, so it has a unique and wonderful texture.   • Q Is glass machine-produced?

    A All ceramic indigo glassware is handmade. Since it is a blown glass that is blown one by one by a craftsman, and a type blown glass that is blown into a mold, the way colors are mixed and the way bubbles are mixed are slightly different.   • Q The glass has become cloudy. How to care?

    A Glassware may become cloudy. In such a case, soak your household vinegar in a solution diluted with 3 times water for about 3 minutes, and then wash with water. The cloudiness is easily eliminated and it becomes shiny.

  • Q Do you handle materials other than ceramics, wood and glass?

    A There are many other materials as well. From metal materials such as iron kettles, candlesticks and cutlery, to cloth products such as cloth and accessories. There are also seasonal artificial flowers. We handle a wide variety of household goods, so please feel free to contact us.

  • Q I'm worried about the smell of the bowl

    A It smells like lacquer. Leave it in a well-ventilated shade for a few days to remove the odor.

  • Q Is the product safe?

    A Currently, there are two hazardous substances that elute from ceramic tableware and glass tableware: "lead" and "cadmium". For these substances, inspection methods and elution amount standard values ​​are set based on the "Food Sanitation Law" of Japan.
